Exam Preparation Tips

If your child has an important exam coming up, help them prepare to successfully take on their test. The Tutoring Center in Middletown has some useful tips to help your child ace their exam.

Develop a Plan

Once your child knows what subjects will be covered on their exam, create a study plan. Using a study guide, develop an outline to guide your child's studying. Decide what areas your child feels the strongest in and what areas they need to review more. Set aside an hour or two each day to study in order to ensure your child is fully prepared for their exam. Remember to avoid cramming since it's not an effective study technique and because it tends to cause more stress and anxiety.

Create an Effective Study Space

Provide your child with a designated study space far from distractions and equipped with all the necessary supplies. The space should be comfortable and relaxing. Distractions, like televisions and video games, should be kept a distance away in order to promote concentration. It's a good idea to provide your child with water and healthy snacks to help keep them concentrated as they study.

Stay Focused on the Exam

To help your child stay focused on their exam day, ensure they get enough sleep the night before. Your child should get at least eight hours of sleep in order to stay focused and alert during their test. Provide your child with a healthy breakfast the day of the exam. Avoid sugary drinks and snacks that can cause sugar spikes and crashes. Some healthy options include blueberries, greek yogurt and avocado toast.
